Having an ultrasound is important.
Am I Pregnant? Know For Sure.
First, you need to know if you are really pregnant and how far along you are. Pregnancy tests can sometimes show false results. The earliest way to confirm your pregnancy is by having an ultrasound, which we provide for free, provided you meet criteria determined by our medical director. This will be established at your first appointment.
Why have an ultrasound if I’m thinking about an abortion?
An ultrasound confirms if you truly are pregnant. Thirty three percent of pregnancies end in natural miscarriage, so an ultrasound will tell you if you have a viable pregnancy. Once you know the pregnancy is viable, the ultrasound can also tell you how far along you are. This will determine the type of abortion that is available to you. If you are less than 9 weeks pregnant, you may be eligible for a medical/chemical abortion which usually does not require a surgical procedure.
What exactly is an Ultrasound?
It’s a simple and painless procedure that uses sound waves to see and measure the fetus. Ultrasounds will produce an x-ray looking picture of the baby and will be able to determine approximately how far along you are in your pregnancy.
